Tonight when I put them to bed Oscar asked if I had taken down "The Oscar Star."
I barely remembered what he was talking about. Sometime around 2010, if I remember correctly, I picked up souvenirs for the kids on my way back from a conference in Lake Tahoe, including glow-in-the dark stars.
I counted them out and put up the same constellations in each of their rooms: big and little dippers, Orion, Cassiopeia, the North Star.
There was one extra star. "The Oscar Star," I told him, as I put it up near the window. Neither of us has mentioned it in the past 5 years. I wonder what else he'll miss about this house.
